Bibliotherapy

Bibliotherapy is a form of mental health treatment. It involves the use of books to help children cope with changes, emotional problems, or mental problems. (Pardek, 1994)

Bibliotherapy includes books with characters facing a dilemma similar to the reader, realistic elements such as plot and character, a model for problem solving, and opportunities for sharing the story through discussion or activities.

PDAN’s children’s books can be used in a session with a therapist, or can be read with a parent, friend, caretaker, or alone. Click on any of the books below to learn more.
